Missed & Outstanding Zakat (*Qada Zakat*)

How to calculate and pay missed Zakat from previous years: Qada Zakat estimation framework according to Hanafi Fiqh and Aala Hazrat.

Introduction

If a Muslim failed to pay Zakat in past years due to ignorance, forgetfulness, or negligence, the obligation is not forgiven by the passage of time. Zakat is a debt owed to Allah (Dain-ullah).

In Fatawa Razawiyyah (Volume 10 - Qada-uz-Zakat) and Bahar-e-Shariat (Part 5), Aala Hazrat Imam Ahmad Raza Khan (Ψ±ΨΩ…Ω‡ Ψ§Ω„Ω„Ω‡ ΨΉΩ„ΩŠΩ‡) details how to estimate and discharge historical Zakat backlogs.

Section 1: Estimation Framework for Missed Years

  1. Estimate Past Assets: For each missed year, make a conservative estimation of your gold, silver, cash, and business stock.
  2. Historical Silver Nisab: Check the historical silver Nisab value for each respective year.
  3. Calculate 2.5% per Year: Calculate 2.5% for Year 1, deduct paid amount, and calculate for subsequent years.
  4. Prioritize Repayment: Pay off Qada Zakat in manageable installments.
