Step-by-Step Educational Zakat Calculation Guide

A simple 6-step practical framework to calculate your 2.5% Zakat accurately according to Hanafi Fiqh and Aala Hazrat's fatawa.

Introduction

Calculating Zakat accurately is a sacred religious responsibility. To make this process seamless and error-free, SALAH Live presents a simple, structured 6-step framework based on Hanafi jurisprudence and Aala Hazrat Imam Ahmad Raza Khan (Ψ±ΨΩ…Ω‡ Ψ§Ω„Ω„Ω‡ ΨΉΩ„ΩŠΩ‡) (Fatawa Razawiyyah, Vol. 10).

The 6-Step Zakat Framework

[Step 1: Fix Anniversary Date] βž” [Step 2: Total Zakatable Assets] βž” [Step 3: Subtract Immediate Debts] β”‚ [Step 6: Discharge with Niyyah] ◄── [Step 5: Apply 2.5% Rate] ◄── [Step 4: Check Silver Nisab]

STEP 1: Fix Your Zakat Anniversary Date (Hawl)

Identify your annual Hijri date (e.g. 1st Ramadan). On this day every year, assess your total wealth.

STEP 2: Total All Zakatable Assets

Sum up the monetary values of:

  • Pure Gold weight value (24K, 22K, 18K jewelry, coins, bars)
  • Silver weight value
  • Cash on hand + Bank balances
  • Business merchandise selling market value + Raw materials
  • Recoverable customer receivables (Dain-e-Qawi)

STEP 3: Subtract Qualifying Immediate Liabilities

Deduct currently due debts (immediate loans, supplier bills due, credit card statement balance).

STEP 4: Compare Net Wealth against Current Silver Nisab

Compare your Net Zakatable Wealth against the current price of 612.36g of pure silver. If Net Wealth $\ge$ Silver Nisab, Zakat is obligatory.

STEP 5: Calculate 2.5% Zakat Amount

$$ ext{Zakat Due} = ext{Net Zakatable Wealth} imes 0.025$$

STEP 6: Discharge Zakat with Intention (Niyyah)

Distribute Zakat to eligible poor Muslims with sincere Niyyah, ensuring complete transfer of ownership (Tamlik).
