Shah Wajihuddin Alvi was not only a master teacher but also an astonishingly prolific writer. Historical records estimate that he authored, annotated, or wrote marginal commentaries (Hashiyah) on more than 300 major textbooks across various fields of sacred learning.
His works on Arabic grammar, logic, and Fiqh became standard university textbooks in madrasas across South Asia and the Ottoman territories. Scholars from Medina and Mecca sent manuscripts to Khanpur seeking Shah Wajihuddin's written verification and critical notes.
When Shah Wajihuddin accepted spiritual initiation into the Shattari Sufi order under Sheikh Muhammad Ghouse Gwaliori, his academic mastery became illuminated by deep spiritual devotion. He demonstrated that rigorous intellectual scholarship and genuine Sufi piety are two sides of the same coin.
Shah Wajihuddin passed away in Ahmedabad in 1589 CE (998 AH). His tomb and madrasa complex in Khanpur, built by his disciple Syed Murtaza Khan Bukhari, remains an architectural and historical landmark of Ahmedabad's rich Islamic heritage.
