Episode 01 — Childhood Memory & Early Travels

"Born in Bukhara in 810 CE, young Muhammad ibn Ismail lost his sight as a child, recovered it miraculously, and memorized thousands of Hadiths."

In 810 CE (194 AH), in the historic Central Asian city of Bukhara, Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari was born. Orphaned at a very early age, young Muhammad faced a severe trial when he lost his eyesight in early childhood. His devoted mother prayed ceaselessly to Allah for his healing. One night, she saw Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) in a dream, who told her: "Allah has restored your son's vision because of your continuous prayers." The next morning, young Muhammad awoke with clear, sharp eyesight.

From childhood, Muhammad demonstrated a photographic memory. By the age of sixteen, he had memorized the entire Quran and thousands of Hadiths, along with their chains of narrators (Isnad). When listening to scholars in Bukhara, he would spot subtle flaws in narrations that elder scholars had missed.

Realizing his life's calling, young Bukhari set out on a journey that would span over sixteen years, travelling thousands of miles across Nishapur, Balkh, Baghdad, Basra, Kufa, Mecca, Medina, Damascus, and Egypt to collect authentic traditions of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).
